Slow Down And Enjoy The Ride

Slow Down And Enjoy The Ride!

Have you ever noticed a driver speeding past you only to end up right beside you at the next red light?

It just doesn’t make sense to speed. For one, it’s against the law. And for two, you really aren’t going to reach your destination that much sooner. So why do so many drivers speed?

Well, a lot of people think driving fast is fun, especially the ones that drive sports cars and other cars that are built for speed. A lot of drivers don’t allow themselves enough time to reach their destination on time, so they speed in an effort to get there more quickly. Others, well they speed for the sheer challenge of it; trying to reach their destinations in record time.

Regardless of the reason for driving so fast, it’s still against the law. And speeding still is a major cause of car crashes.

Speed does kill, and extensive studies reveal a few reasons why:
  • The faster your car travels, the more distance it needs to come to a complete stop.
  • The faster your car travels, the greater the distance it travels between the time you first notice an emergency situation and the time you react.
  • The faster your car travels, the more severe the crash and any injuries.
And if all this wasn’t bad enough, here’s something else to think about.

If you’re caught speeding, and some day you will get caught, you’ll pay in many ways.

  • You’ll have to pay the cost of the speeding ticket, and in most jurisdictions, speeding tickets aren’t cheap. And the faster your speed when you’re caught, usually the more expensive your ticket. That’s because in many jurisdictions, fines are based on how much over the speed limit you’re driving when caught.
  • Speeding violations add points onto your license. Sometimes you can take safe driving classes to erase those points, but sometimes you can’t and those points remain on your record for years. More points almost always trigger significantly higher rates on auto insurance premiums for several years.
So slow down and enjoy the ride. And if you must drive fast, head to one of the states where the posted speed limit is as high as 75 mph like Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, South Dakota and others.
